Helping Others Live the Good Life…
…at The Merriman
The Merriman Good Life Foundation is dedicated to raising funds to positively impact the lives of those who live at 209 Merriman Road.
Tax-deductible gifts made to The Merriman Good Life Foundation are used to enrich the lives of residents by purchasing special items not normally provided by nursing homes.
Since our inception we have raised money to purchase the following:
- A 14 passenger bus for resident outings.
- Annual purchase of flowers for front porch and courtyard.
- Holiday gifts and celebrations.
- A new awning to cover the best front porch in all of Akron.
- Rocking chairs for the front porch.
- A commercial outdoor grill for resident/employee summer time cookouts.
- A blanket warmer.
…In Nursing Homes Across America
The Merriman Good Life Foundation is committed to seeking all available opportunities to make the “good life” a reality for those who reside in nursing homes in Ohio and throughout the nation.
The main focus of this effort is the promotion of a hybrid for/non-profit nursing home organizational model. This organization combines the best elements of for-profit providers with the best features of non-profit nursing homes.
In the summer of 2014 a feasibility study of this cutting edge nursing home model was completed by Plante Moran. The study showed clearly that this hybrid model was not only feasible but generated significant positive financial bottom line results. Due to its unique structure the tax exempt operating surplus generated by this hybrid nursing home model will be available on a dollar-for-dollar basis to improve the care and services provided to vulnerable older adults.
